Summary, etc When Alexander Graham Bell discovered the telephone in 1876 he started an explosion in human communication that is still going on to this day. Bell, with his detailed knowledge of how the human ear amplifies vibration, saw immediately that it should be possible to send the human voice down a wire. The telephone was born.
